On the late afternoon of June 20, 2025, I visited Moon Dog Brick Oven in Abingdon, VA — and once again, this spot lived up to its reputation as one of the best pizza joints in the region. 

🍽️ The Vibe 

We arrived to find the place about half full, with a lively but not overwhelming energy. The indoor seating felt comfortable and clean, and the volume was just right — perfect for conversation without shouting. The atmosphere was upbeat and welcoming, and the staff offered warm greetings on both arrival and exit — a detail that never goes unnoticed. 

🍍 What We Ordered 

We shared a large Hawaiian pizza (yes, pineapple belongs on pizza), along with fresh garden salads topped with house-made Ranch and Raspberry Vinaigrette. We stuck with soft drinks this time, but they also offer a solid selection of local brews if you're in the mood. 

🔥 The Flavor 

The food? Outstanding. 
The brick oven crust is perfectly crisp with just the right amount of chew, and the ingredients — from the sweet pineapple to the smoky ham — were fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepped with care. 

This is not your average pizza joint — it’s a true standout in the region, and a must-stop if you’re passing through.
